Have Your Say - Proposed draft Waste Facility Fees & Charges
Gilgandra Shire Council is seeking community feedback on proposed increases to waste facility fees and charges for 2026/27.
The proposed increases form part of Council’s broader planning to ensure the long-term sustainability of local waste services, as costs to process and manage waste continue to rise.

What changes are proposed?
The following changes are proposed to apply from 1 July 2026 for waste received at the Gilgandra Waste Facility. These proposed changes do not apply to existing kerbside collection services.
Household rubbish:
- $5 per wheelie bin for general waste, shire residents
Greenwaste:
- $5 per wheelie bin uncontaminated greenwaste
- $15 per ute or box trailer load uncontaminated greenwaste
- $20 per cubic metre all other uncontaminated greenwaste
- $5 per timber pallet
Increases are also proposed to other wastes that already attract a fee, in line with actual costs to manage and process, including mattresses and tyres.

A range of items can be dropped off at the Waste Facility at no cost. Residents are encouraged to sort waste to reduce the amount of general rubbish sent to landfill
Free items include:
- Household recycling (yellow bags)
- Scrap metal and whitegoods
- Household and car batteries
- Paint
- Gas bottles and fire extinguishers
- Fluorescent tubes and lightglobes
- Clean fill (dirt)
- Chemical drums (drumMuster), bulka bags (BagMuster), silo bags
- Motor oils and cooking oils
- Op-shop items
All material delivered to the Waste Facility must be managed through recycling, reuse on site, or landfill.
What else is Council doing?
Council is preparing a draft Towards 5000 Waste Management Strategy, to be placed on public exhibition in the coming months.
This work considers long-term operations at the Gilgandra Waste Facility and potential improvements, including:
- Improved reporting systems
- Improved drop-off areas
- New recycling services
- On-site machinery upgrades
- Exploring kerbside Food Organics & Garden Organics (FOGO) recycling
- Community education initiatives
