As part of National Volunteer Week, held this week from 19-25 May, Gilgandra Shire Council (GSC) celebrated our #LocalLegend volunteers and community groups with a morning tea and information session in recognition of the incredible contributions volunteers make to our community every day. This event was an opportunity for those interested in volunteering to chat with invaluable pillars of our community and learn how to get involved.

Whether you have a spare few hours in your week or you’re interested in meeting new people, volunteering in any form or capacity is a great opportunity to give back. The community groups and organisations that attended the event, and are currently looking for volunteers, include:

  • CWA of NSW - Gilgandra Evening Branch
  • Gilgandra Men’s Shed
  • Lion’s Club of Gilgandra
  • Castlereagh Zone RFS
  • Gilgandra Branch of the Australian Red Cross
  • Vinnies Gilgandra
  • Gilgandra Museum and Historical Society
  • Openway Bookshop
  • Gilgandra Community Garden
  • NSW SES Gilgandra Unit

To get involved in one or more of these organisations, head to their website or social media sites (if available) for more information.

Additionally, did you know that you can volunteer with the following GSC services?

  • The Coo-ee Heritage Centre, greeting visitors to our region
  • Gilgandra Lifestyles, connecting and sharing stories with #LocalLegends
  • Community Care, delivering meals and a friendly smile
  • Breakfast Club, giving youth a bright start to their day

If you are interested in volunteering for one or more of these services, please visit our website to register your interest.
