Following Council awarding four of the works packages as part of the successful funding under the NSW Government Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), restoration works have commenced within our Shire. The DRFA is for the flood damage incurred through 2019 -2021, there has been five natural disaster declarations related to Gilgandra LGA during this period.
In addition to Council’s own three grader crews, we have engaged four contractor crews from the region.
- Work on Packages 1, 2, 3 and 4, totalling a sum of $1.25 million, involves 220km of rural roads.
- Council will be awarding Packages 5, 6 and 7, involving a further 370km of road restoration works funded under the DRFA, at its May meeting.
- Rural roads not included in these packages are having work performed by Council's own three grader crews.
While not all sections of these roads are covered by flood damage, the crews will be completing a full restoration. This additional work will be funded from Council’s maintenance budget and will mean that the roads will be brought back to standard in their entirety, whether they qualified for natural disaster funding or not.
Once roads are completed, Council will move on to roads that have received no treatment until the network is covered, unless subsequent damage requires emergency attention.
