Council, in partnership with Essential Energy, advises the community that electrical and paving works on Miller Street are now underway and progressing along the project area.
Section 1 – Fronting Mitre 10
Section 2 – Fronting the former SPAR building
Section 3 – Former SPAR building to Gil Library Hub Plaza

This project is scheduled to run for approximately three months across two phases
Phase 1: 17 August 2026 to 19 September 2026 (weather permitting).
Phase 2: Commences 28 September 2026, with expected completion by
mid-November 2026 (weather permitting).
Will my business have to close?
Access to businesses will be maintained wherever possible.
Council will communicate directly with impacted businesses to provide updates as work progresses.
Will I be able to access shops on Miller St?
Both pedestrian and business access will remain open wherever possible.
Please use extra caution when walking near construction zones.
What will happen to car parking on Miller St?
A maximum of five parking spaces will be temporarily closed at any one time as work progresses down the street.
Right Side (Library Plaza): Trenching runs from Bridge St to the War Memorial, followed by repaving.
Left Side: Trenching is limited to the section between Gil AG & Auto and Windmill Crafts. Repaving, however, will occur along the full length from Bridge St to Rhors Timber and Hardware.
Underground power cables - replacing overhanging power cables on Miller St awnings to improve safety compliance standards.
Renewed footpath featuring brand-new pavers.
Current works involve installing underground conduits, with Essential Energy to install and energise power cables at a later stage - currently planned for October. Outages are planned to occur out of business hours, with direct engagement to be conducted with affected businesses.
