Gilgandra’s country vibe means we have free parking that is accessible to all types of vehicles from bicycles to B-double trucks. There are some restrictions in certain areas and these are clearly signposted. A summary of these restrictions and the penalties they attract are listed below.

Accessible Parking

Only vehicles transporting a current Mobility Parking Scheme (MPS) permit holder can park in areas displaying this sign. The permit must be displayed in the parked vehicle. Permit holders must comply with the conditions of use of the permit.

This sign can also be displayed on the roadway.

Gilgandra has 24 accessible parking areas. These are located at:

  • Miller Street – 1 space in front of Windmill Crafts
  • Bridge Street – 2 spaces beside Mitre 10
  • Castlereagh Car Park – 1 space adjacent to public amenities, 1 space behind Government Access Centre
  • IGA Car Park – 6 spaces
  • Warren Road – 2 spaces in front of Gilgandra Shire Council offices
  • Warren Road – 1 space in front of Gilgandra Post Office
  • Elizabeth Street – 2 spaces in front of Gilgandra Public School
  • Court Street – 1 space adjacent to Gilgandra High School
  • CWA Car Park – 3 spaces
  • Bundy Street – 1 space in front of Barnados
  • Cooee Heritage Centre – 2 spaces
  • Gilgandra Shire Council car park – 1 space

Fines for parking in an accessible parking space without a current permit displayed is $549 & 1 demerit point.

Free Timed Parking

Gilgandra Shire has limited timed parking that is found primarily around the business district. This is to ensure customers can access shops and services easily.

Timed parking in Gilgandra ranges from ¼ hour (15 minutes) to two (2) hours.

Fines for parking for longer than permitted is $110.

No Parking Zones

No Parking zones are areas where you can park for a maximum of two (2) minutes and the driver must remain within three (3) metres of the vehicle.

Some No Parking signs have hours of operation. This means that there is a No Parking restriction for those hours only.

Fines for disobeying a No Parking sign is $110.

If the No Parking zone is in a school zone, the fine is $183 & 2 demerit points.

No Stopping Zones

No Stopping zones are established where public safety may be an issue. This includes intersections, pedestrian and children’s crossings, business access driveways, and around schools.

You are not permitted to stop in a No Stopping zone at any time unless there is a medical or other emergency.

Some No Stopping signs have hours of operation. This means that there is a No Stopping restriction for those hours only.

Fines for disobeying a No Stopping sign is $257.

If the No Stopping zone is in a school zone, the fine is $330 & 2 demerit points.

Bus Zones

Bus zones have been established for the use of buses only. Other vehicles are not permitted to stop within these zones.

Some bus zone signs have hours of operation. This means that there is bus zone restrictions for those hours only.

Fines for stopping in a bus zone is $257.

If the No Stopping zone is in a school zone, the fine is $330 & 2 demerit points.

Taxi Zones

Gilgandra has one (1) taxi zone located in Miller Street adjacent to the Royal Hotel.

You are not permitted to stop in a taxi zone unless you are a registered taxi.

Fines for stopping in a taxi zone is $183.

Loading Zones

Gilgandra has one (1) loading zone located in Len Kelly Drive behind Betta Electrical & Furniture.

Fines for stopping in a loading zone is $183.
