Health and Safety Information
Like all wild animals, Flying Foxes do carry some diseases, however the risk to human health is minimal if you take the proper precautions.
Never handle a Flying Fox. If you find one that is dead on your property, use thick gloves or a grabbing stick to dispose of it in your waste bin. If it is in a public place, call Council 02 6817 8800 to remove it as soon as possible.
If you find an injured Flying Fox – call WIRES 1300 094 737 and they will send an expert out to help.
Don’t put your pets water or food out underneath trees and remember to always maintain good hand washing hygiene.
