Gilgandra Region Active Transport Strategy
Developed in parallel with the CBD Masterplan, the Active Transport Strategy provides a Shire-wide framework to improve walking, cycling and micro-mobility connections to schools, childcare, health services, community facilities, the town centre, and recreational assets such as Windmill Walk. It focuses on improving safety, accessibility and all-ages mobility, with an emphasis on high-priority links between residential areas and core destinations

Key elements of the strategy include:
- Safe pedestrian and cycling connections into and through the CBD.
- Identifying movement barriers, including state highway crossings, kerb heights and inconsistent footpath widths (as also referenced in the CBD analysis).
- Prioritised upgrade corridors linking residential neighbourhoods, key services and the township’s recreational nodes.
Recommendations that support ageing-in-place, school-based mobility, disability access and everyday trips for residents. The Strategy has been developed to align with Get NSW Active program, the Community Strategic Plan 2035, the Towards 5000 population vision, and the infrastructure and activation priorities identified through recent community engagement. The four priority areas have been developed into concept plans and include:
- Gilgandra town loop
- Hunter Park Precinct connection (to CBD, schools, health and residential)
- Tooraweenah Village Management Plan project
- Armatree Village Management Plan project
