Gilgandra Shire Council completed a community-based Heritage Study following careful consideration of the cultural heritage significance of places or items of importance to the story of a local government area. Outcomes of the study include: • Development of a Thematic History of the Shire. • Recording of places and items. • Recommendations regarding inclusion of these places or items on a local government heritage schedule. • Recommendations regarding the inclusion of items with a high level of significance on the State Heritage Inventory. • Recommendations regarding tourism and promotion of the area.

Heritage Colours User Guide & Heritage Values Policy
Gilgandra Shire Council has adopted the Protecting Heritage Values Policy and the Heritage Colours for Gilgandra Heritage Conservation Area – A Guide for Owners.
These documents apply to properties within the Gilgandra Heritage Conservation Area (Miller, Wrigley and Morris Streets, Warren Road and Bridge Street). They outline how heritage values are to be protected and provide guidance to building owners on appropriate maintenance, colour schemes, façade works, signage, and when Council approval may be required.
The User Guide offers practical advice to help owners choose colours and finishes that complement the period and style of their building, while the Policy explains responsibilities and relevant approval processes.
