The Gil Recreation Centre
Gilgandra Shire Council is aiming to develop a multipurpose sports facility with extensive opportunity to expand community services and amenity for the local and regional community. The proposed project, located in Hunter Park and to be known as the Gil Recreation Centre (the GRC) Project. This project will see the redevelopment of aging, inadequate and unsafe infrastructure to ensure the provision of recreational and community-based services is retained. Continuation of these services is vital to Gilgandra given the higher rates of youth unemployment, housing affordability stress, mobility issues and reliance on government funded income support.
The GRC will ensure Council can continue to deliver regionally significant Government funded community support services.
Council is developing a wider Hunter Park Precinct Plan, identifying the integration of the GRC within the Precinct. The Plan will consider operational and user experience, and connections to key travel routes including to schools, health, CBD and Windmill Walk. Hunter Park Precinct is made up of the GRC, CWA rooms, RFDS Health Hub expansion project, carparking, skate park, BBQ and play area, access points and existing infrastructure including pathways, amenities.
