PREPARE FOR SUMMER NOW

Heat

Everyone can be affected by hot weather. Older people, babies and young children and people with existing diseases and medical conditions are particularly vulnerable. Plan ahead now to Beat the Heat:

  • NSW Health has a range of new Beat the Heat community resources you can download to help you Beat the Heat.
  • Utilise 'cool' spaces in the community, such as the Gilgandra Swimming Pool and the Gilgandra Shire Library.
  • Keep track of the weather. The Bureau of Meteorology has Heatwave Service maps which show colour-coded heatwave assessments for the previous days and predict heatwaves are about to occur.

Smoke and air quality

Smoke from bushfires and hazard reduction burning can affect your health, especially those who are older, children, pregnant women and people who have heart or lung disease.

  • Stay indoors when there are high levels of air pollution. To best avoid smoke, it is recommended to stay indoors with windows and doors closed and avoid outdoor exercise.
