Gilgandra Shire Council has developed the Draft Gilgandra Region Waste & Resource Recovery Strategy 2026–2036, which will guide the future of waste management and resource recovery across the Gilgandra Region over the next ten years.

The Strategy provides the long-term direction for Council's waste services, with a key focus on the operation of the Gilgandra Waste Management Facility and identifying opportunities to improve waste reduction, recycling, resource recovery and service delivery. It has been developed to ensure Council's waste services remain financially sustainable, responsive to community needs and compliant with changing State regulations.

Our Vision
A locally delivered waste and resource recovery system that provides efficient, reliable services to the Gilgandra community, maximises value from resources and remains financially sustainable for future generations.
Key Focus Areas
Over the next ten years, the Strategy focuses on four key areas:
- Avoid and Reduce Waste – encouraging waste avoidance and reducing the amount of waste generated.
- Increase Recycling and Resource Recovery – improving recycling opportunities and recovering more valuable resources from waste.
- Provide Sustainable Waste Operations – delivering efficient, environmentally responsible and financially sustainable waste services.
- Increase Resilience and Future-Proof Waste Services – ensuring Council's waste services can adapt to future community needs, industry changes and legislative requirements.

Your feedback will help Council understand community priorities and expectations for future waste services. The survey responses received during the exhibition period will be considered before the final Waste & Resource Recovery Strategy is presented to Council for adoption.
