A Milestone in Regional Collaboration
Coonamble, Gilgandra and Warrumbungle Shire Councils are thrilled to announce the development of the Real Country Strategic Project and present the Draft Strategy and concepts of the Castlereagh River Infrastructure elements.
Mayor Doug Batten says the collaboration represents a significant milestone in our region’s development. It is an opportunity to showcase the potential of our region and focus on enhancing our visitor experience, promoting the Real Country experience, and supporting economic initiatives and local infrastructure projects.
The Real Country Strategic Project has been a multi-year journey, bringing together the expertise and dedication of the three Councils to shape the future of our communities for locals and visitors alike. It is an initiative that places engagement and collaboration at its core.
Mayor Batten says, the project is a reflection of our shared values and goals. It is an exciting step forward in showcasing the potential of our region.

The Real Country Strategic Project represents a unique partnership between three regional Councils, demonstrating our commitment to working together to address common challenges and opportunities. In developing the draft documents, including the Real Country Strategy, Infrastructure Business Case, Cost Schedule and Engagement Report, there were seven community workshops held across the three regions, including three villages along the Castlereagh River; Binnaway, Mendooran and Tooraweenah and an online workshop
