Miller Street > Seats, Beats & Eats Contract Awarded

Published on 02 March 2023

For immediate release.

The contract for Gilgandra’s newest activation project, Miller Street > Seats, Beats & Eats has been awarded!

We are pleased to announce that local business CWME Civil has now commenced on site construction.

CWME Civil Director, Ryan Brook says, “We were really excited when we got the news! This will be our first project under our new subsidiary, CWME Civil, and with Gilgandra Shire Council. We already have men on site commencing with the demolition process and removal of the pavers.”

Adding,

“Taking on a project of this size is definitely a big achievement for CWME Civil. We’ve always quoted on engineering projects, but knew we had the capabilities of taking on larger projects in different areas.”

“Under CWME Civil we’ve been able to procure additional machinery and branch out into other areas of work, including engineering, excavation, and construction, landscaping and so on. Branching out into these new areas and the addition of new machinery means we can provide our employees with more work, ensuring their future employment, and keeping them active and engaged in the job.”

“We have also employed three new civil staff; we hope as we progress and take on more projects we’ll be able to continue employing more staff, including yearly trainee and apprenticeships.”

“We look forward to working on this project and future projects, as we continue grow and operate under CWME Civil.”

Linking to the adjacent Mill on Miller Street and aligning with the Gilgandra Activation Blueprint, Miller Street > Seats, Beats & Eats seeks to transform the Community Plaza, a key functional area in the CBD with vibrancy and energy through installation of shade, seating, greenery, and lighting, to create a connected, activated space piquing community and visitor interest!

Ideas to enhance the community plaza stems from consultation with the community including BIG Ideas survey, GSC Community Survey, customer requests, support letters from artists, local businesses and community groups and the Economic Development Committee. Based off this feedback the key objectives of the activation include:

  • Improve the quality of an existing area to create a connected activated space.
  • Improve the quality of the space and activate the Gilgandra community plaza with colour, vibrancy, opportunity and energy.
  • Encourage increased dwell-time in both the day and night, promoting user comfort as people grab a meal from nearby takeaway location and access key linkages in the CBD.
  • Provide a place for interaction, not only for enjoyment but impromptu and casual work catchups, reinforcing increased dwell-time and boosting economic activity and vitality.

Miller Street > Seats, Beats & Eats is made possible with the assistance of funding from the NSW Department of Planning and Environment under the Streets as Shared Spaces Program Round 2.
