This is Gilgandra Photo Competition

Published on 18 May 2020

To showcase the beauty of the Gilgandra Region, Gilgandra Shire Council is running a photography competition celebrating our region, our people, our events and all things that make our region unique.

General Manager, David Neeves said the competition is an opportunity for people to share what they enjoy and value the most about our shire.

“The Gilgandra region is known for many things, from windmills to Coo-ee’s, our Aboriginal heritage, a strong agricultural base and as a gateway to the Warrumbungles. For those living in the region, it’s also known for its strong community spirit, high quality services and a great place to raise your family.”

Adding,

“We’re very keen to see what scenery and moments are captured through this photo competition, with the winners to be selected by the community itself through a voting system on Facebook and at entry forms from The GIL. Entries can also be a photo from your collection at home, they don’t have to be from right here, right now especially given the current situation”

“The photography pavilion is one of the favourites of the Gilgandra Show, and with the show cancelled this year, this competition is a good opportunity for the community to showcase their talents. Having the photos displayed in the windows of ‘the GIL’ for everyone to see, will also make for a nice attraction in the main street.”

“I do remind residents of the importance of adhering to the current social distancing requirements and while we are keen for people to share their photos of the region and family and friends, it is important they do so while being mindful of the government restrictions in place.”

The five categories under the competition include Agriculture, Family Friends and Friendly Faces, Events, My Gilgandra Region and Youth (10-18 years).

To enter, individuals simply have to:

  • Submit a photo taken within Gilgandra Region
  • Tell us where it was taken and when

Entry is free, with entries closing Tuesday, 30 June 2020. The competition is open to all ages and photographic abilities as long as the photo is taken within Gilgandra Region (defined as the Gilgandra Shire local government area). Smart phone photos are welcome!

All entries will be printed and presented in The Gilgandra Weekly during the voting period.

Each winner will have their entry professionally printed and displayed (with credit to the photographer) on the front windows of ‘the GIL’ (30-32 Miller St) and receive a $50 voucher to ‘the GIL Collective’. Total value per prize is $200.
