Shop Local this Christmas for your Chance to Win $10,000!

Published on 01 November 2021

For immediate release.

It is that time of year to start collecting receipts from local businesses in the Giglandra Region for your chance to win in a share of $10,000 in Coo-ee Cash Cards!

This is the 13th year that the Shop Local campaign has run in the Gilgandra Region, and each year the support and feedback from the community has been great!

Mayor Doug Batten says,

“This program gives residents and visitors more reason to spend in Gilgandra, supporting local businesses, and showcasing the great range of products, services and gifts that are available locally.”

Last year, there were 9,500 entries brining a whopping $1.56M spend into local Gilgandra businesses into the lead up to Christmas.”

Marketing & Communications Manager, Kathryn Larkin says the 2021 Shop Local Christmas campaign has been developed with simplicity and access in mind.

“We wanted to ensure all those who want to be involved get the opportunity to be part of the program, particularly as travel begins to open again.”

Ms Larkin says entrants can start collecting their receipts from Monday, 2 November with the first draw being held Thursday 26 November 2020!

“Entrants are asked this year to provide receipts from any business located in the Gilgandra Region, to a total value of at least $20. There will also be a business winner each week from the collated receipts. With $10,000 in Cooee Cash cards to be won this year and value of cards starting at $1000, there are plenty of opportunities for everyone to benefit”.

This year, there are two ways you can enter:

  1. In an official entry envelope into the barrel to be located outside of the GIL Collective and Visitor Information Centre
  2. Online through Council’s website, simply complete the form and upload a photo of your receipt

Ms Larkin says,

“This simplicity is all designed to support our local businesses as we bounce back from the impacts of COVID over the last year”.

Adding that it is because of COVID there is a slower start to the promotion.

“While we are awaiting for envelopes to arrive due to a delay from COVID, we encourage shoppers to keep receipts, or to enter online. The Shop Local barrel will be located outside the GIL, and will be ready to start taking entries as soon as the envelopes are distributed!”

“Keep an eye out for advertising of Shop Local to commence as faces of ‘Local Legends’ start popping up!”

The weekly Shop Local draws will take place at 10am on the following dates out the front of the GIL Collective and Visitor Information Centre, Gilgandra

  • Thursday, 2 December 2021 – 2 Draws of $1000 (one hard copy, one digital) for individuals; 1 Draw of $500 for businesses
