Local Strategic Planning Statement on exhibition

Published on 25 May 2020

Council at its May meeting resolved to adopt the draft Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) and place on public exhibition for feedback for 28 days.

The draft LSPS sets the framework for Gilgandra Shire’s economic, social and environmental land use needs over the next 20 years, outlining how we can maintain our core community assets and take advantage of new and diverse opportunities for growth.

“Essentially a LSPS sets out a 20-year vision for land use in the local area, the special character and values that are to be preserved and how change will be managed into the future,” said David Neeves, Council’s General Manager.

Adding,

“Council prepared the draft statement by building on the consultation undertaken for the Integrated and Reporting framework in 2016-17 as part of the Community Strategic Plan. It identifies nine Planning Priorities to achieve Council’s vision for Gilgandra along with actions and the means for monitoring and reporting on the delivery of these actions.”

All Councils within NSW are required to prepare a LSPS to act as a link between the strategic priorities identified at a regional or district level, and more detailed planning at a local level expressed in Council Local Environmental Plan (LEP) and Development Control Plan (DCP) to ensure consistency in strategic planning approaches.

Residents, businesses, community groups/organisations and interested community members are encouraged to view the draft and provide a written submission to Council expressing your comments, concerns and suggestions.

The document is available in electronic format and can be downloaded from Council’s website: www.gilgandra.nsw.gov.au.

A copy will also be available for viewing at Service NSW, 20 Miller Street, Gilgandra. Submissions can be made via Council’s website www.gilgandra.nsw.gov.au/Connect/Have-your-say, hand delivered to Council’s Administration building in Warren Road, forwarded by email council@gilgandra.nsw.gov.au or posted to PO Box 23, Gilgandra.

Written submissions, addressed to the General Manager, will be accepted up to 5pm on Monday, 22 June 2020.
