Local Activity Approval (Section 68)

Local Activity Approvals are important approvals which Council regulate. They relate to certain kinds of development and the use of community land.

Section 68 of the Local Government Act 1993 specifies a range of activities where approvals are required to be obtained from Council. The activities are varied and include:

A Local Activity Approval may be required in addition to a Development Application. For example, where a dwelling will be assessed under the Development Application process, part of the approval may require a Local Activity Approval to also be assessed where the dwelling requires a septic tank system to be installed or wood heating will be the method of warming the house in winter.

In other instances, a Local Activity Approval may be lodged on its own. Examples include an event being held on community land, a mobile business trading from a public park or the street, or busking or theatre performance in a public place.
