SHOP FROM THE #GILGANDRAGIFTGUIDE IN GILGANDRA’S 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS

Published on 25 November 2019

In its 11th year, Gilgandra’s Shop Local Program is stepping up for 2019! With Council’s recent purchase of the former Target building, Gilgandra’s 12 Days of Christmas is planned to showcase local products in this space, along with a #GilgandraGiftGuide digital campaign. This will run alongside the Shop Local Campaign with 50 x $1000 Coo-ee Cash cards up for grabs.

All businesses within the Shire are invited to be part of Council’s #GilgandraGiftGuide digital campaign, where Council’s Gilgandra Region social media pages will showcase local products and services that can be purchased locally for Christmas. This is on the back of the highly successful #BuyFromTheBush movement.

Mayor Batten says,

“We are lucky enough to be part of a community that has a range of businesses and services available. This initiative is ensuring that residents and visitors know what we have within our Shire and can shop locally, without having to drive to Dubbo or surrounding areas.”

Businesses that are wishing to be part of this campaign can simply add a photo of their Christmas gifts using the #GilgandraGiftGuide on their Facebook or Instagram pages to be shared, or can email images directly to enjoy@gilgandra.nsw.gov.au.

Council is also investing in Gilgandra’s 12 Days of Christmas. This will see the initial activation of the former Target building, with its temporary name, ‘the GIL’. This program will operate in ‘the GIL’ from Tuesday, 3 December to Saturday, 14 December with an event to mark the conclusion in the lead up to Christmas.

General Manager David Neeves says,

“This will be a pop-up style space to encourage local businesses, artists and makers to set up and sell their products directly in the CBD. ‘The GIL’ will be open from 12-5pm daily over these 12 days and will be staffed by Council. Purchases of products can be made directly from ‘the GIL’.

Adding,

“The 12 Days of Christmas also supports the visitation of the Di Jones real estate group with over 100 cars travelling out from Sydney to purchase in our region, who will be through Gilgandra on Tuesday, 10 December. There is also the Central Stores Fresh Market on Thursday, 12 December and the 12 Days will concluding with a finale event, this is set to be an exciting time in Gilgandra.”

At the same time, the shop local program will run similarly to last year where residents will need to collect $50 in receipts from any business in the Gilgandra Shire and place the receipts in a specially marked entry envelope and into the entry barrel, located in the Gilgandra CBD.

The program will commence Monday, 25 November with weekly draws each Monday at 9am. There are 50 x $1000 Coo-ee Cash shopping cards available which are preloaded cards that can be spent at any business in Gilgandra with an activated EFTPOS machine. The final draw will be held on Monday, 23 December.

Mayor, Doug Batten says Council fully understands the impact of the drought on small businesses, particularly retail and service type businesses.

“Council acknowledges that many of our businesses are doing it tough and also have limited opportunity to access any direct financial assistance. The shop local promotion is an economic stimulus program that guarantees a minimum injection of $50,000 directly into the local economy at a time when it is needed most and we believe the whole package of programs will contribute far more than that.”

Council will begin to deliver shop local posters and envelopes from Monday, 25 November and residents are encourage to start collecting their receipts from Monday morning. There is no cost for businesses or artists to participate in any of the programs. If you have not received your poster or envelopes, or require additional, please contact Council.

If you are interested in holding a stall or exhibition in ‘the GIL’, please complete an Expression of Interest on Council’s website or contact Council directly on 6817 8800 or by email enjoy@gilgandra.nsw.gov.au.
