Orana Safe - Local Government Plant Safety Conference

Published on 19 October 2018

Gilgandra Shire Council will be hosting a Local Government Plant Safety Conference over two days on the 25-26 October 2018.

With keynote speaker, Daniel Keighran, the recipient of the first and only Victoria Cross awarded to a soldier form the Royal Australian Regiment in its proud 66-year history, to speak at the dinner hosted on the Thursday evening, the conference will cover topics including safety and wellness, working remotely and in isolation, plant safety, compliance, WHS systems, and technology.

The interest in the conference has been excellent, say General Manager, David Neeves,

“It is exciting to see that the response to the Conference has been so positive. With almost 150 attendees, the two day conference will have a local impact onto our businesses and accommodation facilities which is vital in critical times we are currently facing with the drought.”

“We’ll have delegates from Council’s right throughout the Orana region including Narromine, Parkes, Walgett, Warren, Broken Hill, Bourke, Brewarrina and many others.”

“We believe the response can be contributed to covering topics based on feedback from each of the Council’s on the Orana region, not to mention the quality of the speakers, and the opportunity to hear from Victoria Cross recipient, Daniel Keighran.”

Expert speakers through the conference include Professional WHS speaker, Robyn Moore; Managing Director of Australasian Transport Risk Solutions, David Edwards; Chief Operating Officer at Parkes Shire Council, Brad Byrnes; Partner Sparke Helmore Lawyers, Carlie Holt; and Sales Manager Mastercom, Robert Glover.

Local Governments within Western NSW are invited to attend, with attendees expected to include operators through to HR, Directors, Management and Mayors.

OranaSafe is an initiative of Council as part of an enforceable undertaking with SafeWorkNSW. Council has also committed to deliver a second OranaSafe conference in 2019 for Health & Wellbeing.
