FEDERATION STREET REHABILITATION – STAGE 3 PLANNED

Temporary road closures

Council is planning Stage 3 of reconstruction works for Federation Street, with commencement expected for Monday, 25 June.

The Federation Street Rehabilitation project involves significant reconstruction and pavement strengthening works on Federation Street (commonly referred to as the heavy vehicle bypass) from the intersection with Bencubbin Street to the Oxley Highway, as well as the replacement of water services in this area.

Through Stages 1 and 2 of the Project, Council has completed the installation and replacement of several driveways, culverts, major drainage structures and constructed a new road surface from Bencubbin Street through to the Castlereagh Highway (Coonamble Road).

Council’s General Manager, David Neeves says the works were previously not planned for this section of the road,

“It is due to the efficiencies achieved in Stage 2 of the Federation Street reconstruction project, that Council is now in a position to undertake further rehabilitation, and extend the works right through to the Oxley Highway.”

Mayor Doug Batten adds,

“We will be able to offer the same standard of service of our bypass road right through from the Castlereagh Highway to the Oxley Highway, which creates a better experience for our users.”

The rehabilitation works will be undertaken in two sub-stages to minimise disruptions to local residents, with works beginning Monday, 25 June. It is expected that the entire project will take 3 weeks, weather permitting, with subsequent road closures.

Federation Street will be closed from Bencubbin Street to the Oxley Highway. The replacement of the water services will also involve some disruptions to the water supply service in this surrounding area commencing from 18 June 2018.

Council will be notifying individual residents of the date/time of their water “shut off” via a Notice of Planned Interruption card at least 3 days before these works will be undertaken.

As done previously, all vehicular traffic will be directed from the Federation bypass via Miller Street.

General Manager, David Neeves says that Council is actively seeking to minimise the impact to residents.

“The redirection of traffic may have an impact in the Gilgandra CBD and Council wants to ensure the community is aware of this possible impact.”

Adding,

“We understand that this may be a disruptive project and we will work with the community, especially those residents and users of Federation Street, to minimise any inconvenience.”

Further updates will be provided as the commencement of Stage 3 approaches.
