Travelling inland from the east coast Giilgandra is 442 kms from Sydney and 385 kms from Newcastle. Gilgandra is also 40 minutes from the spectacular Warrumbungle Mountains.
Gilgandra is set on the banks of the Castlereagh River (an upside down river, where the water flows underground) and supports a shire population of 4309, with a town population of 3129. Gilgandra covers an area of 4487 square kilometers and the excellent climate allows outdoor activities to be enjoyed all year round.
